HOT FUSION
this method of hair extensions is widely popular these days and quite affordable.
the process uses a heated applicator to attach a shank of hair to the clients hair. each shank of hair consists of a grouping of human hair with a bond made of an adhesive designed specifically for hair extensions. Most hair extension bonds are made from keratin but some constist of silicone, organic pectin and other polymers. The heated elements of the applicator melt the adhesive and purge it through the donor hair and the clients hair creating a complete bond. The adhesive then hardens as it cools.
This method lasts anywhere from 2 months to 6 months depending on varying factors.
To remove these extensions a remover is used derived from either alcohol, oil, acetone or other chemicals in either liquid or gel form.
average cost from $400 to $1200 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $100
ULTRASONIC COLD FUSION

this method is the same procedure as hot fusion except that the applicator is an ultrasonic machine that uses ultrasonic waves (vibration) to soften the adhesive making it pliable enough allowing it to purge through the donor hair and the clients hair creating a complete bond. Since the elements are not a heated element, there is no risk of burning your fingers, the client or the clients hair. The adhesive does not melt away as in the heat method so there is less sticky gummy mess to deal with. This method would be a bit slower than the hot fusion but is otherwise similar.
average cost from $600 to $1400 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $100
SILK LOCS

also known as micro links, hair locs, easy hair, euro locs and other names as well as cold fusion.
This method uses a ring or shell made of metal either copper or aluminum by sliding the ring onto the shaft of the clients hair, up to the root area. Then a shank of hair designed for this method is inserted into the ring and then the ring is clamped with a tool that resembles a plier to flatten the ring holding it and the donor hair in place. some rings can be folded over to allow a more secure hold, and some rings are silicone lined so that the metal does not come into contact with the clients hair and to stop slippage. This method can slip more than fusion but is designed for hair that is more thin and fragile than normal hair. This method can last from 2 to 4 months safely.
To remove these extensions you would either use a specifically designed tool to open the ring and gently slide off.
average cost from $800 to $1600 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $150
SEWN INDIVIDUALS
this method of hair extensions is performed by taking a loose shank of bulk hair with no adhesive and add it to a small section of the clients hair by braiding it 3 or 4 times and then using a blanket stitch with needle and thread, wrap the thread around the portion of hair That was braided about 1/8 of an inch from the scalp and loc stitching it closed to secure the hair. This method is more difficult to master and is very time consuming but great for fine fragile hair and for those clients that don't want adhesive or metal used on thier hair. This method lasts from 2 months to 4 months safely but they tend to slip easier than other methods.
to remove the thread is cut with a pair of scissors or a seam ripper and combed away.
average cost from $100o to $2000 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $200
SEWN WEAVE

this method of hair extensions is usually performed by making horizontal tracks from behind each ear meeting in the centre of the head at the back by either twisting and sewing or cornrowing the clients own hair and then sewing wefts of hair onto the tracks with specifically designed weave thread and a curved needle. most cases take from 2 to 4 tracks. This method is much less natural looking than the separate strand methods but is more economical and less time consuming.
to remove the thread is cut with a pair of scissors or a seam ripper and combed away.
average cost from $200 to $600 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $50 - $100
BONDED WEAVE

this method is similar to sewn weave in the effect that it uses wefted hair. There is no sewing involved however but rather the clients hair is parted horizontally from ear to ear and then the wefts are applied to the roots of the clients hair with the use of a liquid adhesive. the adhesives are usually of a latex compound and dry quite quickly.clients use from 4 to 6 tracks usually.
to remove a oil or cream based remover is applied to the underside of the weave and massaged in with your fingers. place under the dryer or heat source for 5 - 10 minutes to soften adhesive compound and hair wefts are gently pulled away. Using a fine tooth comb, remove any left behind adhesive. This method is temporary and can last up to 3 weeks safely.
average cost from $100 t0 $200 depending on desired length and results
average cost of removal $25 to $50
CLIP IN EXTENSIONS

are simply wefts of hair usually 8 to 10 inches wide with wig clips sewn at the outside edges and inside center. These clips are opened and clamped onto the clients hair in horizontal partings.
usually about 3 -5 tracks are used depending on desired results.
these are very temporary and last one day safely in clients hair.
to remove, gently open clips and hair will slide easily away.
average cost for set is $150 -$300
